ARCHING TEXT AROUND A CENTER POINT
STEP : 1
Select File > Newto open the New document dialog box. Under Preset, choose Photo, set the width and height to 5 inches, and click OK. You’re going to recreate the arching text on the cafe sign in Figure 42-1.

Figure 42-1
STEP : 2
Select the Ellipse tool (U), hold the Shift key, and draw out a large circle around 2.25 inches in diameter in the center of your file. Press T to select the Type tool, and on the Character panel choose a fun display font such as Greek Diner Inline TT, 45 pt with a hex value of #4f0f0f. Hover your cursor above the top edge of the circle shape and when the dotted lines around the cursor turn into a straight line (as if the cursor is surfing along the path), click once and type PLANET in all caps. If needed, use the Path Selection tool (A) to adjust the flow of your text along the path so that the text sits at the top of the arc.
STEP : 3
Hide the visibility of the shape layer, select the text layer, and press Ctrl+J/Ô+J to duplicate the layer. Double-click the duplicate layer’s thumbnail and replace the selected text with the word MOCHA in all caps. Use the Path Selection tool (A) to reposition the text along the bottom inside edge of the path, as illustrated in Figure 42-2.

STEP : 4
Double-click the MOCHA layer’s thumbnail to select all the text, and in the Character panel adjust the character’s tracking to about 275 so that the letters are more evenly spaced. That looks better, but the baselines of both text layers are still flowing along the edge of your original shape, which doesn’t look very good.
With the MOCHA layer selected, press Ctrl+T/Ô+T to add a Transform bounding box around your type. To scale the layer, Shift+Alt+drag/Shift+Option+drag the bounding box so that the top arc of MOCHA aligns with the top arc of PLANET, and then press Enter/Return to accept the transformation. Your layout should now match the example in Figure 42-3.

STEP : 5
Use the logo artwork on its own for marketing, advertising, and promotion, or as part of a layout like the cafe sign. For example, you could put the logo on a bag of coffee beans, a t-shirt, or a coffee mug (see Figure 42-4).

Figure 42-4
To complete the cafe sign layout from Figure 42-1, use the Ellipse tool to draw a circle shape behind the text with a fill color of #ceb28d and a 30 px inside stroke in #4f0f0f. Find a stock art picture of a coffee mug, select its shape, press the Refine Edge button to smooth out the selection edges. From the selection, create a new Color Fill Adjustment layer filled with the same color as the text, #4f0f0f. Hide the mug stock art layer and add an Inner Glow style to the mug fill layer with the blending mode set to Multiply and the color set to #4f0f0f. Lastly, add some text (Est. 1923) and a textured wood background layer.
